New Braunfels ISD 2015 Silver Unicorn Recipient Dave Heefner, on Tuesday formally announced his candidacy for an at-large NBISD School Board position that will be up for election on the May 2016 ballot. Heefner will be running for one of the two, at-large positions.

In celebration and recognition of the City's 25th anniversary as a member of the Texas Main Street program, New Braunfels was selected to host the Texas Historical Commission's semi-annual Main Street Managers Professional Development Training Conference.

Dr. Dorothy Overman, the Comal County health authority since 1990, has been named to Gov. Greg Abbott’s Task Force on Infectious Disease Preparedness and Response.

New Braunfels Police on Sunday arrested a 24-year-old Kyle man, after officers observed him driving erratically in the 1500 block of IH-35.

Residents from Oak Run and other neighborhoods near the proposed Veramendi School Sector Plan at the end of Oak Run Parkway, came out in force to continue their fight for an alternative to allowing construction traffic on that neighborhood’s main road.

The law has sided with NBU once again, in a suit with the Lower Colorado River Authority. At issue, were the rights to water spilling from the former electric power generating plant, into a small waterfall that hits the Comal River by the Stelzen Haus, on the Wurstfest grounds. 

Comal County Commissioners Court  approves a 54-percent tax rebate incentive to Major Wire Texas, to help attract the manufacturer to open a new plant in Schertz. 

 Comal County public health officials advise they continue to coordinate with the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and follow the most recent guidelines to monitor developments in the spread of the mosquito-borne Zika virus. 

New Braunfels ISD officials report that in the last few weeks, NBISD has received calls regarding local business owners who were approached to purchase advertising to support NBHS athletics. NBISD officials want you to know these solicitations are not affiliated with, nor do they benefit NBHS athletics.

A 47-year-old New Braunfels man is dead and a 48-year-old woman, also from New Braunfels, is in critical condition after a motorcycle accident Saturday night.

Congratulations to the four members of the 2015-16 Smithson Valley High volleyball team who were named Academic All-State. 

You might say Comal County students snapped the competition recently, at Spring Branch Middle School’s FIRST LEGO League qualifying event. Twenty-four teams from Comal ISD, with other San Antonio-area districts, competed for eight coveted spots to participate in the March 12th, Alamo Regional Championships in San Antonio. FIRST (For Inspiration of Science and Technology) LEGO League’s goal is to have tomorrow’s innovators practicing imaginative thinking and teamwork. Apparently CISD’s LEGO stars have that, in spades.  All eight teams that advanced to regionals were from Comal ISD schools.
