Local Teacher Identified as Victim of Homicide – Husband Arrested

Comal County Sheriff’s Office officials report the victim that was discovered in the house fire in the 700 block of Forest Trail has been positively identified as 57-year-old Gayle Hendry of New Braunfels. The autopsy revealed that she died as a result of a homicide. In a press release yesterday, officials state, based on information received during the investigation from Comal County detectives; the Comal County fire marshal; the Texas state fire marshal; and the Rankin County, Mississippi Sheriff’s Office; detectives were able to obtain a warrant for her husband, 60-year-old Gary Hendry’s arrest for murder. Hendry was arrested Wednesday, reportedly without incident, in Rankin County, Mississippi. The investigation is ongoing, but no further details are being released at this time. Comal ISD parents of Specht Elementary students received a letter Wednesday, telling them of the probable upcoming identification and passing of Gayle Hendry, a kindergarten teacher at Specht for 15 years. According to the letter from Specht principal, Jackie Sundt, every Specht elementary classroom is to be visited by a member of District Crisis Team, and small schedule changes were to be expected through today, to help students with the loss.
