Suspect Apprehended in SAPD Detective’s Murder – “The Uniform Was the Target”

San Antonio, Tx-

San Antonio Police announced Monday afternoon they have arrested 31-year-old Tyrone McKane for the capital murder of SAPD Detective Benjamin Marconi. SAPD Chief William McManus reports the San Antonio resident has a violent history with police. According to McManus, the suspect was in the police headquarters Sunday morning; which is why Police had surveillance footage of the suspect; and possibly an idea of who they were looking for. By early evening Monday, a collaborative effort with state, federal, and local agencies, lead to apprehension of the suspect in a vehicle stop in east San Antonio.  “I think the uniform was the target,” McManus told reporters.  Marconi was one of four law enforcement officers, ambushed across the nation Sunday. The Marconi family is asking for privacy; and asks that, in lieu of flowers, that all donations be made to Detective Marconi’s memorial fund or any of the listed organizations- including the 100 Club of San Antonio.  We’ll put the full list up at KGNB.AM.  In support of friends at the SAPD, as well as Detective Marconi's family, members of the New Braunfels Police Department will wear a black band over their badge until 5pm on the day the Detective is laid to rest. Also, if you’re interested, we have a local 100 Club as well. According to their web-site, the 100 Club of Comal County provides immediate financial assistance to the family of fallen Comal County first responders when tragedy strikes- providing them with funding for their immediately incurred financial burden.  Call (830) 899-0100 for more information.
