Around 2000 runners and walkers made the 8th Annual Turkey Trot a success on Thanksgiving morning-making absolutely everyone that participated winners. After he let the kids chase him around the block in Gruene, we spoke with Comal County Sheriff’s Detective and President of the Comal cops for Kids, Tommy Ward; as well as District Attorney Jennifer Tharpe; and Assistant Police Chief Joe Vargas-all of whom were volunteering their time Thanksgiving Day morning. Over the years and with the help of the Turkey Trot, they told us the Comal Cops for Kids Foundation has given grants to St. Judes, Communities In Schools, the Children’s Advocacy Center, the SART Foundation of Comal County (sexual assault response team), the child welfare board, the Comal County Junior Deputy program, CASA, the Crisis Center of Comal County, DARE, the New Braunfels Christian Ministries’ Kids Club, Blue Santa, Green Santa, and the New Life Treatment Center, often on an emergency basis. The largest donation to date, was 55-thousand-dollars to the Children’s Advocacy Center.
