Aquaponics Class, Brush Conference Open for Registrants

Comal County residents can sign up for a pair of events hosted by the county’s office of the Texas AgriLife Extension Service. Extension offices from Comal, Gonzales, Guadalupe and Wilson counties are co-hosting the Multi-County Brush and Forage Conference on Tuesday, Dec. 13. The conference will discuss topics such as weed and brush management, herd health, aquatic plants, and pesticides.
The conference will be at 210 E. Live Oak St. in Seguin. Registration is $25, which includes lunch and handouts. Attendees must register by Friday, Dec. 9, by calling the Guadalupe County Extension Office at 830-303-3889. The Comal County Extension Office will welcome specialist Peter Woods to its offices at 325 Resource Drive just outside New Braunfels for a two-session workshop introducing aquaponics, the practice of growing fish and vegetables together in a closed system. Part 1 of the workshop, focusing on terminology, system design, economics and marketing, will be from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14th and repeated the next day from 9 a.m.-noon. Part 2, a hands-on demonstration of building a simple system, will be from 9 a.m.-noon Tuesday, Jan. 10th.
