New Braunfels, TX - The New Braunfels roller derby team, The Wurst Girls, will provide information about the sport - Derby 101 - and a live demonstration including derby drills and relay push races in a family event on Thursday, March 23rd from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Westside Community Center. The event is in celebration of the 2017 Bluebonnet Award winning book “Roller Girl.” This program is open and free to the public. The Center is located at 2932 South IH-35.
“Every year, children across the state of Texas read at least five books from the list of Bluebonnet nominees and vote for their favorite book. We were very excited ‘Roller Girl,’ by Victoria Jamieson, was voted the Bluebonnet Winner for 2017,” said Jenny Rodriguez, Children’s Services Librarian. “This graphic novel is about a girl who finds friendship and the confidence to be Tougher. Stronger. Fearless. through roller derby. We thought this event would be a fun way for families to learn more about the sport, see our local team in action, and have a chance to meet the athletes.”
