New Braunfels City Council will hold a special meeting tonight at 6pm in City Hall.

Canadian General Tower — or CGT —will hold a job fair from 10:30 a.m.-6 p.m. today, in the New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce, Honors Hall.

The SA Corral Club brings Ranch Rodeo to the Comal County fairgrounds this Saturday. Gates open at 5pm., and the Ranch Rodeo begins at 6.

FM 725, south of Southbank Boulevard will close tonight, August 24th, at 7pm. to replace a damaged culvert. (Flashing message boards have been advertising the closure all week.) The road is scheduled to reopen by 7am. tomorrow, August 25th.

Comal ISD hit the back-to-school trail running as students and parents flocked to the district’s campuses in record numbers.

Those attending Comal ISD high school sporting events will soon be able to choose foods other than traditional nachos or Frito pies. Don’t worry you’ll still be able to get your traditional concession stand items, but a new, healthier menu called FIT Snacks has been added with plenty of nutritious items.

New Braunfels Environmental Services Manager, Bryan Ruiz explains there are important things you can do to reduce the risk of exposure to Zika virus or West Nile virus, the most important being to limit your exposure to feeding mosquitoes by eliminating mosquito-breeding areas in your environment.

City Council members last week asked City Manager Robert Camareno and his staff to take another look at next year’s budget, to make more funds available to fund public safety.

Last night’s City Council meeting began with a presentation that should please residents and business owners within the City limits.

The beginning of school also marks the return of school sports. In Texas, Friday night lights of high school football are serious business, and in our area, the rivalry between Seguin and New Braunfels High School is believed to be the longest-running high school football rivalry in Texas. 

City Council will meet today at 4:30, to discuss and consider possible action regarding the Fiscal Year 2016-17 operating and capital budgets and the proposed 2016 tax rate, and announce public hearings.

New Braunfels ISD recently announced its policy for providing free and reduced-price meals for children served under the current income eligibility guidelines.

The New Braunfels ISD is accepting nominations for names of the two new elementary schools being built under the 2015 Bond Program until 5pm. on Aug. 31, 2016.  The name must reflect the name of the residential area that it serves, or a local geographic area or feature, a municipality, or a particular place such as a street or development.
