(New Braunfels, Tx)--The City of New Braunfels is hosting a reception in honor of returning City Councilmember and Mayor Pro Tem Ron Reaves –and -incoming Councilmember Chris Monceballez, as well as in recognition of the service of outgoing Councilmember Sandy Nolte. The reception will be Tuesday, May 26th from 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. at the New Braunfels Civic/Convention Center, 375 S. Castell

City and County offices will be closed today for Memorial Day. This includes the Post Office, the Library, City Hall, and more. Garbage and re-cycling will remain on schedule. Today’s regularly scheduled City Council meeting, as well as the NBISD Board meeting, will be held Tuesday.

The New Braunfels Police Department has closed the Comal River to recreational use for Sunday, and will re-evaluate the situation on Memorial Day.

 Due to heavy rains and the resulting high and fast moving water, the Comal River in New Braunfels will be closed to recreation until 1pm on Sunday, May 24, 2015.

From the National Weather Service; A flash flood WARNING is now in effect for Comal and several other counties. A warning is issued when a flash flood is imminent or occurring in the warned area. Recent rainfall intensity and duration, and saturated soil conditions have led to this situation.  A flash flood is a sudden, violent flood after a heavy rain, or occasionally after a dam break. Due to a significant rain event, the Sheriff's Office is asking everyone on River Road to voluntarily evacuate and seek higher ground. Saturday, May 23, 9:20pm.

TxDOT is making emergency sign repairs to a damaged overhead sign at River Ridge Parkway in San Marcos.. Both directions of IH-35 are shut down and not expected to open for several hours (8pm).

(New Braunfel, Tx)--A San Antonio man suspected in a string of bank robberies, including one in New Braunfels, has been indicted by a federal grand jury. Willie James Cleveland, 34, was charged with nine counts of bank robbery earlier this week. Cleveland is accused of robbing eight banks along the IH-35 corridor between February and April this year.
